LSD 007 - Mind Mapping
Welcome back. For those that were able to join our most recent LSD run with Satisfy, thank you and if you missed it or just want to relive the morning here ya go.
The spirit and purpose of these global events is to bring people together through the shared experience of a longer and slower distance. When we had our first meeting with the people at Satisfy I learned something that made me connect even more with the brand itself. Their whole goal is to take people from running on the road and re-connect them with nature.
At Flowerboy we have always taken the approach of doing the same. Showcasing the little roads and lesser known trails that are so close to the cafe. With a 15 km distance this can really shine. I want to offer something new and memorable each month we host these events. This past event had me drawing mind maps for 2 weeks whenever I had time to just think.
Luckily the Wednesday before, our friend Charlie ( OG run clubber ) was kind enough to show me a few little sections I had not previously ran. We did some bush whacking and eliminated a few connectors that were a bit too adventurous for most. The next 3 days was me just putting puzzle pieces of all the places I’ve been lost and enjoy running. None of which are much more than 5 km from the cafe at any point.
On Friday evening we set out with this mind map in my head with the only real goal being a loop of some sort. It has to be late enough so the paper trail has a chance to last 12 hours, so the last 5 km was done in the dark. There was also some checking of the tides to make sure the beach section wasn’t going to claim any members, and re thinking if the way I wanted to end the route would be reasonable. ( more on that later )
I think we did a pretty good job of route marking on this one and it had a couple “spicy” sections to encourage slowing down. I feel these parts in the moment might be a pain but they are what make us remember the run.
The mid way rice field section on this particular route was super beautiful. It’s wild when you are so in the zone of running and watching your step that when you finally realize where you are running it really hits! I heard a lot of people giggling and really being blown away by the landscapes we could be running in so close to the congestion of Canggu.
The afformentioned “Spicy” sections included a small river hop early on and then a bit of a balance beam zone alongside a smaller river behind the main streets of Cemagi. The home stretch was a good stretch of beach at low tide followed by a sneaky little route through a construction zone that surprised the workers as much as the participants. All smiles though, so thats good.
Again, the energy at the end of the run is something special. Seeing everyone’s heart rates coming down as their smiles continued to shine makes it all worthwhile. So nice to see so many new faces, people coming from far away and making the morning commitment is so awesome. We are already looking forward to next months route and hope to see you guys at some runs or a morning coffee before that! Thanks for reading.
